Corporate Profile.

Formation

The Association was founded on 1 January 1979 and chartered through Association of National Accountants of Nigeria Decree No. 76 of 1993 (Cap A.26 LFN. 2004.).

Membership Strength

The total membership of the Association as at November 2019 is over Thirty-Nine Thousand (39,000).

Branch Network

A network of 44 Branches have been formed in the 36 States of Nigeria, Federal Capital Territory, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Principal Objectives
Advancing the Science of Accountancy and determining the standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to become registered members of the accountancy profession and reviewing those standards from time to time as circumstances may require.
The Governing Council
The Governing Council of the Association is composed of 15 members with Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, PhD, FCNA, CPA as the President and Chairman of Council.
National Secretariat and Liaison Office
The National Secretariat of ANAN is situated in Abuja with Liaison Office at 250 Herbert Macaulay Way, Alagomeji Yaba, Lagos.
The Training Arm ANAN
The Nigerian College of Accountancy, is a Postgraduate Professional College established under Section 8 (I) (d) and section 20 of ANAN Act.<br /> It is the training arm of the Association. It is located at K wall, near Jos in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Requirements to Practice
To Practice as Statutory Auditors, the ANAN Act requires a further training of three years under a Practitioner Assistant Scheme (PAS). On successful completion of the training. ANAN issues a practicing certificate if the applicant is adjudged fit and proper person.
Professional Standard Setting
Setting of Accounting and Auditing Standards in Nigeria is the responsibility of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. (FCRN). The two Professional Accountancy Organizations (PAOs) which ANAN is one having equal representation of two members each on the board of FRCN.

  • Certified National Accountant (CNA) – For all Members
  • Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA) – For Senior members of over ten years continuous active membership.

Requirements for Admission into Membership are:

  1. B.Sc Degree or HND Accounting
  2. One year Postgraduate Professional Diploma in the Nigerian College of Accountancy established under the ANAN Act.
  3. Two year supervised work experience as Accountant In-Training in any sector of the economy.
